Wayne High School Drama Club and International Thespian Troupe #112
Wayne School currently has two organizations devoted to the study of theatrical arts. The WHS Drama Club is a training ground for students who are new to the study of theatre. WHS Drama Club members work alongside members of International Thespian Troupe #112 in productions and community service projects in an effort to earn the points necessary to become a member of the ITS Troupe. Drama Club Fees: $25 due by September 30th. DC meets every other Wednesday. Troupe membership registration cost deadlines will be announced. An organization that compliment the theatre program is Muse Machine fees: $25 due by September 30th unless covered by fundraising from previous year..
The International Thespian Society is the honor society for theatrical arts. The society's origins go back to the spring of 1929 in a small West Virginia town. The society is named for Thespis, the first actor in ancient Greece. Today the organization has over 4,600 professional members and close to 100,000 active Thespians in more than 3,900 affiliated high schools and middle schools. The International Thespian Society is a service organization, in addition to being an honor society. Each fall and winter, the troupe #112 runs a canned food drive. In October Drama Club assists in the Trick or Treat canned food drive and in November/December Toys for Tots.
To be eligible for induction into the honor society, a student must earn 10 points (100 hours) on the ITS point scale. Each point is equal to ten hours of quality work. Students can earn points through service projects, as well as through productions. Ideally, a student should earn points in two areas of theatre (half in tech, half onstage, for example). ITS members are eligible to audition for numerous scholarship opportunities, attend college visits and workshops as well as attend master class sessions where available.
An additional club opportunity allows for ITS points: Muse Machine. Attending inside and outside performances with short analysis earns points as well.
