Tom Heid’s career in education began here in Huber Heights when he joined the faculty in 1969 after graduating from Miami University in the same year. While teaching accounting, typing, and consumer economics, he also coached football, basketball, and track and served as student council advisor. In 1977, he became the assistant principal at Weisenborn. The past 28 years, he has been the principal of Studebaker Middle School. At Studebaker he has created a positive and caring atmosphere in which students can learn as well as an “open door” style that encourages and seeks student and parental involvement. While principal at Studebaker, Mr. Heid received several awards:
? Celebrate Literacy Award (for outstanding service in the promotion of literacy) – International Reading Association.
? Distinguished Volunteer Leadership Award (four times) March of Dimes
? Muse Machine Recognition Award.
? Outstanding Support Award by the Huber Heights City Schools Multi-Culture Club
? Diversity Award and Sustained and Outstanding Support by the Black Awareness Club Mr. Heid volunteers at Children’s Medical Center performing magic to entertain patients and their families, and organizes the Ed Heid, Sr. Memorial Golf Outing to benefit Children’s Medical Center. Mr. Heid is married to his wife, Barbara (Wayne Class of ’67) for 36 years and they have three sons, two daughters-in-laws and two lovely grandchildren.
