Counseling Announcements

DAYTON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The application is now open for scholarships available through the Dayton Foundation HERE.  Deadline to apply is March 6, 2020.  Other scholarships received by the counseling department can be found in the Career Center.

YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Young Scholars is a program at Sinclair that prepares first generation students in grades 9 through 12 with the skills necessary to successfully transition to college following high school graduation.  Graduates of the Young Scholars Program will be eligible to receive the Taylor Scholarship which is only transferable to Sinclair.  Applications can be found in the Career Center or online at www.sinclair.edu/young-scholars-program

CLASS OF 2020 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS & ALTERNATE PATHWAY OPTIONS
Please click HERE for graduation requirements for the Class of 2020 from the Ohio Department of Education.  The State of Ohio has approved an Alternate Pathway for the students in the Class of 2020 who have not met the testing requirement for graduation.  Information about the Alternate Pathway can be found HERE.  Please do not hesitate to contact your student's counselor with any questions you may have.

SIGN IN PROCEDURE TO SEE A COUNSELOR
Students who wish to sign up to see their counselor must do so using the Counselor Sign Up google form at Goo.gl/zeMqBiStudents may use any device (phone, school/home/work computer), at anytime, however the student MUST be signed into their school Google account in order to use the form. If the student does not know their school email/password, please contact Ms. Ross in room E111. 

FAFSA WILL OPENED OCTOBER 1, 2019 FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-2021
Thinking of going to college or trade school?  One of the first steps to take is to fill out the FREE APPLICATION for FEDERAL STUDENT AID.  Did you know that chances of getting student financial aid are 85% and 92% of students from low-income household get grants that never need to be paid back?  It only takes an hour to apply.  Just fill out the FAFSA at https://fafsa.ed.gov/ to get started.  See your counselor for additional assistance!

SINCLAIR COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS - NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION 2019-2020
Sinclair's new student orientation can be found HERE.  This presentation is loaded with information for students such as registering online, getting books, using Sinclair Services and seeing an Academic Advisor.  Please take the time to go through the orientation.

SINCLAIR COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS - BOOK INFORMATION
College Credit Plus books can be obtained by clicking this link.  https://sinclair.ecampus.com/ The district will only pay for those textbooks that are REQUIRED for the course.  OPTIONAL books will not be covered.  ALL materials purchased by the district MUST be turned into Mrs. Gore in B113 at the end of the semester or if you drop a class to avoid any fees.

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS INFORMATION - School Year 2019-2020
If a student fails a CCP course or withdraws from the course AFTER the refund date, the student/parent(s) will be responsible for all costs associated with the course.  Courses are charged $41.64 per credit hour.  (Example: ENG 1101 is 3 credit hours.  Student fails or withdraws after the refund date, therefore, $124.92 will be added to the student's fees.) Please monitor your CCP institution's calendar for the the drop date with a refund if you plan on dropping a class.  Any books, computer programs or other materials purchased for the course by the district MUST be returned to Mrs. Gore, CCP Coordinator, if the student withdraws from the course or when the semester is completed.

OGT TESTING
     Students needing the OGT have 3 opportunities to test between September 1, 2019 - July 31, 2020


END OF COURSE TESTING
    
Spring Testing - March 23 - May 8, 2020 (specific dates TBD)

ACT/PreACT TESTING

Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 2 pm at the Nutter Center.
