Note: HHCS staff are directed to please hold off on editing your SchoolMessenger account settings at this time. Further information on ensuring the most up to date staff contact information is inputted into the SchoolMessenger system will be relayed during the beginning days and weeks of the 2019-20 school year. Parents are encouraged to edit their SchoolMessenger account settings at this time.
Parents editing their SchoolMessenger account settings involves using either the email address or phone number on file for your student. Please be sure to keep your email and phone number up to date with your student’s school to ensure the proper information is on file.
Go to go.schoolmessenger.com on a web browser to edit your SchoolMessenger account settings. You can also use the following steps to create your SchoolMessenger account via their mobile app on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Click “Sign up” in the upper right hand corner. You will be taken to a page to enter your email and create a password for your account. Make sure you enter the email address that is on file with your student’s school. SchoolMessenger will automatically transfer over the student's primary contact information. If your contact information was not the primary contact, it will not initially be transferred into the SchoolMessenger database. Instructions for adding contact information aside from the primary contact is in the "If you do not have an email address on file and cannot match your phone number " section.
What happens next depends on whether or not you have an email address or phone number on file with your student’s school.
If you have an email address on file
If you have an email address on file, SchoolMessenger will recognize the email and automatically load your account information and past message broadcasts. Your account is now set up and ready to go.
If you do not have an email address on file
You will be taken to a message mailbox that will appear empty. This is where you will match your student’s record using the phone number on file with your student’s school.
Click the “…search for contacts by phone” link at the bottom of your screen. A window will pop up asking you to input your phone number. Enter the phone number your student’s school has on file. Select whether you want to receive a verification code via call or text. Click “Send Code.” A verification code will be sent to the number you entered. Input the verification code you received and click “Verify.” If the verification was successful, you will see a blue box that says “Successfully Verified.” If the system found additional contacts, they will be automatically added to your profile under “Contacts.” Your account is now set up and ready to go.
If you do not have an email address on file and cannot match your phone number
You have two options to create a SchoolMessenger account. The first option is to repeat the steps in the “If you do not have an email address on file,” section, but use a different phone number you might have provided to your student’s school. If that does not work, the second option would be to contact your student’s school and get the correct phone number on file. Once the correct phone number is on file, you will be able to successfully link to your student’s SchoolMessenger account.
If your student is new to the district, you will not be able to edit your SchoolMessenger account settings until your student’s school gets your correct information on file. Please ensure you provide the correct information to your student’s school when the 2019-20 school year begins. Once your student’s school has your correct information on file, you will automatically be added to the SchoolMessenger system and can repeat the steps above to edit your account settings.
Contact information for contacts aside from the student's primary contact can still be added at this time. In order to do this, you would have to set up a SchoolMessenger account using the student's primary contact information using the steps outlined above. Once the SchoolMessenger account is set up using the student's primary contact, you will be able to add additional phone numbers and email addresses linked through the primary contact's SchoolMessenger account. It's also recommended to update the primary contact information with your student's school once the 2019-20 school year begins to make sure the correct contact information is automatically imported into SchoolMessenger.
Opt-in to receiving texts from SchoolMessenger
After editing your account settings, you can also opt in to receiving texts from SchoolMessenger. Simply text any one of the following words to the number 67587: subscribe, optin, yes. You’ll know you were successful if you receive a text that says, “You are registered to receive aprox 3 msgs/mo. Txt STOP to quit, HELP for help.” Repeat the opt-in process for any wireless numbers you want to include.
Please note that while the district does not charge you for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges.
Once your account is created
You can access your account by visiting go.schoolmessenger.com on a web browser or by using the SchoolMessenger app. When logged in, you can add additional phone numbers and email addresses to be notified, see previous message broadcasts, and change your notification preferences as needed.
